About The Position

Opportunity to work in the Materials Engineering Laboratory in Tucson AZ. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to solve engineering problems primarily related to elastomeric materials such as butyl, nitrile, neoprene, silicone, FKM/FFKM, EPDM and more. The candidate will assess elastomer materials based on design requirements, conformance to specifications, or by conducting root cause failure analysis leveraging knowledge of a variety of chemical analysis techniques and elastomer subject matter expertise. Additional responsibilities will include characterizing non-elastomer materials (adhesives, plastics, tapes, composites, metals, and various other production materials) in similar scenarios as above. Tasks will require quick-turn analysis while collaborating with a multi-discipline team, requiring careful attention to detail and an ability to tailor analysis methods and output to match customer needs and timelines. This is not a research position but instead requires solving engineering problems and providing engineering solutions within a short period of time (days or weeks). Due to the physical nature of the work, qualified candidates must also be able to lift 22 lbs. Collaboration with engineers, other subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements, while spending much of their time in the laboratory.
