About The Position

The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer with technical expertise and engineering leadership skills to support the execution of world-class missile integration contract. The ADGE department leads all aspects of Mechanical Engineering that drive the development of complex systems to support the Raytheon Land and Air Defense Systems (LADS) mission area from a customer location, located in Schrobenhausen, Germany. The ADGE department supports Raytheon by cultivating a world-class group of systems thinkers who work together as a team to architect technical solutions to some of the world’s toughest challenges. Key technical domains include Radar Systems and Sensor Netting, Effector Systems, Battle Management, Command and Control, Communications, Network Design, Battlespace Integration, and Interoperability for Domestic and International customers. The Patriot GEM-T Mechanical Engineer will interface directly with the COMLOG customer and its subcontractor, MBDA Deutschland serving as a technical point of contact supporting CRAF (Certified Round Assembly Facility) integration of GEM-T Missile Rounds. The Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the COMLOG and MBDA CRAF scope is understood and executed in accordance with the GEM-T Technical baseline, USG requirements and Raytheon processes. This role will directly interface with the COMLOG Joint-Venture Head of Operations and Quality team to manage the compliant technical execution of the NSPA GEM-T Missile Round integration. The Patriot GEM-T Mechanical Engineer will report to the Raytheon Patriot Product Line (PPL) All-Up-Round (AUR) subIPT Lead and the Raytheon NSPA/Germany Patriot Chief Engineer. The Mechanical Engineer will serve as on‑site technical support, working hands‑on to support manufacturing and quality activities, resolve technical issues, and support CRAF activities. This position will require on-site work at a customer location, located in Schrobenhausen, Germany and is a 2-year international assignment with additional compensation emoluments. This assignment will require <20% travel within Germany and Europe (including Spain), with occasional transatlantic travel back to the United States

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Experience with any of the following in: missile design, production, assembly, integration, or test
  • Experience in Global Patriot Program (or similar program) system design, development, integration/verification, production, and sustainment
  • Experience working within US Export Control Regulations, ITAR and EAR and Releasability Requirements present in relation to Technical Assistance Agreements (TAA)
  • Experience with technical data package reference and review to make quick but accurate hardware dispositions
  • U.S. Citizen - Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Experience with Technical drawing interpretation (e.g. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T))

Responsibilities

  • Work in a diverse international environment (Germany) with German nationals.
  • Work cross functionally with operations, maintenance, quality, and design to implement robust processes for continuous improvement.
  • Primary liaison for the US-based Raytheon Engineering Team to identify, address, and follow-up on technical issues and requests.
  • Act as a CRAF liaison representing Raytheon among team members to include coordinating activities across functions to align to Global Patriot Program direction.
  • Interface and coordinate with cross-functional organizations, such as quality and supply chain, to provide technical expertise in support of COMLOG and COMLOG’s subcontractors to include but not limited to MBDA Deutschland and Bayern Chemie, as well as Raytheon and Raytheon’s subcontractors such as Sener.
  • Support will include the provision of technical baselines, configurations, and specifications.
  • Assure compliance with all US and German Export Regulations (ITAR/EAR and German war weapons) and Raytheon/COMLOG business management processes for technical discussions and exports/transfers/retransfers.
  • Identify and assure tracking of program and technical risks and assist in the development of solutions to mitigate or eliminate the impact of the risks.
  • Support activities at the Certified Round Assembly Facility (CRAF) at the Schrobenhausen facility by working with COMLOG and its subcontractor, MBDA Deutschland.
  • Assure the qualification/certification of the facility is done in alignment with the appropriate US Government interfaces to successfully meet NSPA and the USG’s requirements enabling COMLOG to integrate the Guided Missile and Missile Round assembly levels.
  • Assess suspect non-conformances and provide dispositions for Missile Round Subassemblies, guided missile, and missile round assemblies.
  • Review and validate recommendations regarding manufacturability of existing and future products and advise modifications or adaptations to address quality, customer, product, or productivity constraints.
  • Support COMLOG and Raytheon Quality teams to identify root cause and corrective action, coordinate Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) where required, and support technical evaluation documentation when necessary for Waivers, Deviations, and MRB Actions.
  • Support COMLOG Technical Lead and Quality Teams to provide rationale for disposition of assemblies for presentation to NSPA or its authorized representations (to include Government Quality Assurance Representatives of the German BAAINBw ZtQ organization)
  • Identify or generate rework procedures for use at the CRAF Facility
  • Support PATRIOT Information Management System (PIMS) Investigation Request (IR) actions in support of CRAF integration requirements
  • Support, maintain, and review Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, tool and fixture designs – as required
