About The Position

Serve as team leader to and participates in the work of teams performing maintenance on county storm water management facilities and infrastructure, including ditch cleaning, downed tree removal, and grass and brush cutting in county maintained drainage easements; ensures safe completion of daily assigned tasks; maintains written records of work performed. Teams can vary in size from two to seven members depending on the individual task to be performed. Perform other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of drainage facilities construction and maintenance operations experience
  • Knowledge of drainage maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of construction safety
  • Knowledge of equipment usage/operation to include hydroseeder, brush chipper, chainsaw, tamper, weed trimmer, and hand tools
  • Skill and ability to focus work team effort to blend final product into natural drainage areas/facilities or to connect with existing man-made structures
  • Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months
  • Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview
  • Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required
