About The Position

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking a Principal Investment Officer (PIO) to lead KIMSI priorities related to the metals and minerals sector strategy development and implementation, knowledge management, innovation, deal origination and structuring, and client relationship management and business development. The PIO will be a senior resource in the Knowledge Bank KIMSI team, leading the investment team in business development, project structuring and execution, and portfolio management. The PIO will also play a key role in thought leadership, knowledge sharing and dissemination across the WBG, with an emphasis on curated knowledge to support business development, new products, innovation, and risk management. The PIO will manage relationships with select clients working across multiple countries and will leverage a dedicated team, with direct people management responsibilities. The selected candidate will be based in Washington DC or London and will report to the Manager for Metals and Minerals - Solutions and Impact. The position will have a global focus and involve regular travel commitments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in finance, economics or similar relevant education
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Significant investment and sector experience in metals and minerals, with sector specialization and proven track record and expertise in client relationship management, deal origination and execution in the metals and minerals sector
  • Proven ability to develop and implement Metals and Minerals sector business strategies and knowledge management globally
  • Familiarity with multiple financial products ranging from project finance to quasi-equity and straight equity investments
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and create new opportunities across sub-sectors and financing products
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government authorities, industry groups and experts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and sound business judgment to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions
  • Proven leadership capabilities and ability to take initiatives and drive change
  • Capacity to deal with conflicting priorities and deliver high quality work on schedule; ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries
  • Highly motivated and proactive, committed to highest ethical standards
  • Interest in the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy and values
  • Fluent in English
  • Investment related experience on the environment and social aspects of metals and minerals sector projects with the Environment and Social teams of the WBG to craft solutions that preserve IFC’s Performance Standards and cater to the unique needs of companies engaged in the sector.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with senior management, other WBG units, and external stakeholders on Metals and Minerals sector strategy, and implementation plan.
  • Ensure that WBG is at the forefront of private capital mobilization and thought leadership in the metals and minerals sector.
  • Lead IFC’s engagements in the metals and minerals sector and be a focal investment specialist providing guidance to investment teams in business development, project structuring, execution and portfolio management.
  • Lead Knowledge Bank’s and IFC’s business strategy development and implementation in the metals and minerals sector, working closely with the unit manager, senior colleagues from other WBG units, and external stakeholders.
  • Be the client relationship manager for select clients.
  • Work closely with Knowledge Bank Policy & Regulations colleagues and IFC regional colleagues to develop replicable and scalable high-impact innovative solutions and projects.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, knowledge sharing and dissemination across WBG, with an emphasis on knowledge to support private sector business development, market creation, innovation, and risk management.
  • Actively monitor industry and market trends, participate in industry functions, and build sector relationships globally.
  • Lead a dedicated team of investment staff and be responsible for their deliverables, mentoring, coaching and career development.
