About The Position

Contributes to the overall success of Global Technology Services in Canada by providing principal-level technical leadership in enterprise automation engineering. Accountable for designing, building, and evolving secure, scalable automation capabilities across hybrid environments, applying strong software engineering discipline and platform-thinking to enable consistent, reliable outcomes across the organization. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in automation and software engineering roles within complex enterprise environments.
  • Deep experience with configuration management and orchestration tools, with strong emphasis on Ansible (playbooks, roles, inventory patterns, reusable content, and execution strategies).
  • Strong programming background in Python, including API integration and development of automation tooling/services.
  • Experience applying CI/CD practices to automation code using Git-based workflows and pipeline tooling (e.g., build, test, promote, release).
  • Demonstrated experience designing automation solutions that operate across hybrid environments (on-premises and public cloud).
  • Strong understanding of enterprise security, risk, and compliance requirements as they relate to automation (least privilege, secrets handling, approvals/segregation of duties, and auditability).
  • Broad infrastructure knowledge including Linux and Windows and sufficient networking, storage, and security fundamentals to automate safely at scale.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to other engineers (direct or indirect); ability to lead a small squad and/or partner resources is an asset.
  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technology discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Acts as a principal technical authority for enterprise automation engineering, with deep expertise in Ansible-based configuration management and orchestration across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Designs and maintains automation standards, reference architectures, patterns, and reusable components that enable safe, repeatable automation at scale.
  • Applies strong software engineering practices to automation development, including source control, code review, testing strategies, versioning, and CI/CD integration.
  • Engineers automation solutions and enterprise integrations using stable, supportable interfaces (e.g., identity, secrets, ITSM/change, inventory/CMDB, pipelines, logging/monitoring).
  • Embeds security, risk, and compliance controls into the automation lifecycle, including least-privilege access, secrets handling, auditability, approvals, and segregation of duties.
  • Operates with a platform engineering mindset, ensuring automation solutions are reliable, observable, maintainable, and supported through runbooks and lifecycle management practices.
  • Leads technical delivery end-to-end and may provide day-to-day technical leadership for a small squad and/or partner resources, setting engineering direction and quality standards.
  • Enables adoption across teams through documentation, reference implementations, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
