The Infrastructure Automation Engineering Manager is a player-coach people leader who builds, leads, and grows a team of automation engineers delivering production-grade infrastructure automation in a regulated financial services environment. The role carries two accountabilities at once: the health, growth, and performance of the engineers on the team, and the reliability of what the team ships across on-premises environments. This manager stays close enough to the work to review a design, question an approach, and unblock an engineer. Teams may be responsible for infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, orchestration workflows, self-service platform services, automated testing, policy-as-code controls, compliance automation, operational governance, and engineering reliability initiatives. The manager is accountable for building a high-performing engineering team, ensuring delivery excellence, maintaining engineering standards, and enabling the adoption of scalable automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, resiliency, and risk management across on-premises environments. Equally important to management craft is an orientation toward continuous learning and adaptive thinking. This role demands a high curiosity quotient and a non-negotiable growth mindset: the manager actively seeks feedback, owns their development gaps, and builds a team culture where questions are asked early, incidents are learned from without blame, and complexity is treated as an invitation rather than a barrier. A manager sets the learning culture their engineers inherit, and this role is expected to model it visibly.
