Principal Infrastructure Architect

Globus Medical•Audubon, PA

About The Position

The Principal Infrastructure Architect owns the end-to-end technical design of Globus Medical’s on-premises core platform, with decision authority over technology choices within standards set by the SVP. The role develops proposals and business cases for executive review, leads the technical aspects of vendor selection and agreements, and remains accountable through platform build, migration, and the first year of operation. The architect defines target and transition architectures for compute, virtualization, storage, backup, data protection, and disaster recovery across office locations, considering capacity, performance, resilience, and growth over five years. The role leads design, installation, configuration, hardening, and acceptance of the Audubon platform and Limerick recovery site, including servers and GPU nodes, private cloud, storage, backup, and network and identity integrations. It also designs the platform for Oracle, SharePoint Server, Exchange Server, and data and AI workloads, coordinating with relevant teams on sizing, placement, performance, and cutover readiness. The position defines and validates backup and disaster recovery architecture, including replication, retention, immutability, restore testing, system-specific recovery objectives, and annual DR exercises. It prepares technical sections of capital requests and business cases, including options, multi-year costs, risks, and recommendations, and presents to the CFO and CEO when requested. It leads technical vendor selection, proofs of concept, requirements, evaluations, bills of materials, reference checks, negotiations, and acceptance terms. The architect establishes infrastructure standards, reference architectures, build books, naming conventions, configuration baselines, and change reviews; mentors infrastructure engineers in Audubon and Chennai; and designs security controls in partnership with the CISO’s requirements. The role also ensures operational readiness through monitoring, capacity reporting, patching, lifecycle planning, runbooks, and handover to operations in Chennai and the US. The employee must follow company and industry codes, applicable laws and regulations, complete compliance training, and maintain professional and ethical conduct. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Experience designing and operating exercised disaster recovery, including multisite replication, system-specific recovery objectives, failover and failback, and immutable backup against ransomware.
  • Experience platforming Tier 1 enterprise databases and applications on premises, particularly Oracle, including Oracle Database Appliance, Exadata, or RAC on commodity hardware, with sizing, performance, licensing implications, and cutover.
  • Experience writing and presenting capital requests and business cases to finance and executive audiences, including three-to-five-year total cost of ownership and a defensible recommendation.
  • Experience leading technical selection and negotiation for hardware, software, and services, including requirements, proof of concept, bills of materials, and acceptance terms.
  • Experience building to a security baseline covering segmentation, privileged access, hardening standards, logging, encryption, and audited change, and partnering with a CISO or security function.
  • Clear writing and communication skills, including the ability to produce readable architecture documents and explain recommendations to executives.

Nice To Haves

  • Regulated-industry experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or financial services, including validation, audit, and change-control obligations.
  • Experience landing Microsoft server workloads on premises, including SharePoint Server, Exchange Server, and SQL Server high availability, and integrating them with a hardened Microsoft 365 tenant.
  • GPU compute and storage design experience for data and AI workloads, including NVIDIA-based nodes, high-throughput storage, and container platforms.
  • Cloud exit or repatriation experience moving database or application estates from OCI, AWS, or Azure to owned infrastructure.
  • Experience mentoring engineers across sites and time zones; India delivery exposure is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Nutanix NCP or NCM, VMware VCAP or VCDX, Pure or NetApp, Veeam VMCA, Oracle, or TOGAF.

  • Lead design, installation, configuration, hardening, and acceptance of the Audubon platform and Limerick recovery site, including servers and GPU nodes, private cloud, storage, backup, and network and identity integration.
  • Define acceptance tests and approve project gates, including power and failover testing, restore-time validation, and successful disaster recovery exercises.
  • Design infrastructure for Oracle Database, SharePoint Server, Exchange Server, and data and AI workloads; coordinate sizing, placement, performance, and cutover readiness with database, collaboration, and data teams.
  • Define recovery architecture, including site replication, backup policies and retention, immutability, restore testing, system recovery time and recovery point objectives, and the annual DR exercise.
  • Write technical sections of capital requests and business cases, including options, three-to-five-year costs, risks, and recommendations; present to the CFO and CEO when requested.
  • Lead technical vendor selection, proof of concept, and negotiation for hardware, software, maintenance, and services, including requirements, evaluation criteria, bills of materials, reference checks, and technical agreement terms.
  • Set and publish infrastructure standards, reference architectures, build books, naming conventions, and configuration baselines; establish infrastructure change reviews.
  • Mentor infrastructure engineers in Audubon and Chennai.
  • Build security into the platform, including segmentation, privileged access, hardening baselines, SIEM logging, encryption at rest and in transit, and audited change.
