Principal Hardware Electrical Engineer

RTX•McKinney, TX
•$107,500 - $204,500•Onsite

About The Position

The Principal Hardware Electrical Engineer designs and develops advanced digital electronic systems for aerospace and defense technologies, contributing throughout the hardware development lifecycle from requirements definition and schematic design through testing, validation, deployment, and sustainment. The role leads and contributes to Electro-Optical hardware development from concept through qualification, production, and sustainment. The engineer will lead development of an Electronics Unit using a SOSA-aligned 3U VPX chassis architecture. This includes module integration, system-level design, backplane configuration, and interoperability validation, while accounting for payload cards, power and thermal constraints, chassis management, and high-speed interconnects. The position involves laboratory verification, testing, troubleshooting, and planning integration and verification activities to meet program performance, environmental, and certification requirements. It also includes defining schedules for circuit-card and subsystem tasks and supporting technical growth among peers and less-experienced engineers. This is an onsite position in McKinney, Texas. U.S. citizenship and an active, existing DoD Secret security clearance are required.

Requirements

  • A STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with SOSA-aligned 3U VPX chassis architecture.
  • Experience with Electro-Optical hardware theory of operation and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues through development and production.
  • Experience across hardware development phases from requirements and design through integration, test, qualification, production, and sustainment.
  • U.S. citizenship, because eligibility for a security clearance is required.
  • An active and existing DoD Secret security clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of aerospace or defense product development standards and processes.
  • Experience with Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Test (DFT).
  • Experience working on complex aerospace, defense, or safety-critical systems.
  • Knowledge of high-speed protocols such as PCIe, Ethernet, and high-speed memory interfaces.
  • Experience performing circuit-card assembly-level architecture trades and/or system-level power architecture trades.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Earned Value and/or Agile Execution.
  • Proposal development experience.
