Principal Fiber Connectivity Engineer, NPD

AmazonCupertino, CA
Onsite

About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who collaborate to deliver high standards of safety and security while providing infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. The position offers an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers employees to own them to completion. The engineer will develop and establish strategy for new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs, drive vendor roadmaps, create fiber testing standards, and deploy scalable implementation mechanisms and processes for network-wide deployment. They will also design scalable test infrastructure and qualification procedures to automate fiber optic validation and qualification, and design structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers at hyperscale data centers to improve deployment speed, reduce cost, and improve fungibility. The role involves solving ambiguous problems in existing and new network architecture and system development, proposing strategies, and delivering architecture with significant business and customer impact. The engineer will drive discussions with customers and peers, influence partner and dependent organizations, and manage fiber vendors and contractors by establishing data-driven processes for quality control and commissioning. Additionally, they will monitor fiber optic quality in the fleet, build data-driven mechanisms to identify and remediate large-scale events, and improve the overall health of the fiber plant. This includes performing deep dives through on-site visits, data analysis, and discussions with design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement of physical network standards. The engineer will bridge design, construction, and operations, ensuring that every layer of physical networking meets high standards of performance, reliability, and scalability.
