About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Structures Principal Fellow and Discipline Lead (PFDL) to drive technical excellence, innovation, and strategic alignment within the Structures discipline. This role is crucial for ensuring the development, retention, and application of critical technical skills to meet organizational goals. The individual will serve as a key technical authority, mentor, and leader, ensuring discipline alignment with business objectives while addressing the company's near-term and strategic challenges. The company is transforming the future of flight by designing, building, and servicing advanced engines, and this role is integral to that mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 20+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Firm understanding of design, analysis, materials, and testing of turbomachinery and/or gas turbine engines, including major rotating parts.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, including 1-on-1, group presentations, and written communications.
  • Experience engaging with and briefing external Customers (e.g. Airlines, DoD) and/or Industry organizations (e.g. AIAA).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aerospace industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience in working with internal and external customers solving technical needs and delivering on requirements.
  • Understanding of all phases of product development from concept creation to field support.
  • Proven strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical focal in the Structures discipline.
  • Maintain and evaluate the organizational discipline health.
  • Balance the introduction of new technologies with right sizing activities.
  • Collaborate with executives and managers to ensure the discipline aligns with long-term organizational strategies.
  • Develop and foster a sustainable global workshare distribution and resource planning.
  • Drive the improvement of life prediction, impact modeling, vibratory, burst, creep, and other structures tools.
  • Streamline structural analysis processes.
  • Lead the Structures Discipline Council.
  • Advocate for balanced technological adoption with productivity needs.
