About The Position

Freese and Nichols is continuing to grow its structural practice in Texas and is seeking a Structural Discipline Lead in Austin to help advance technical excellence, develop people, and support the delivery of complex, high-impact projects. This role offers an opportunity for a strong technical leader who wants to shape a discipline, mentor engineers, and play a key role in project success across a wide range of structural applications, including water infrastructure, commercial, and industrial facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE)
  • 6+ years of structural design experience
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license
  • Project management experience
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis and design for a variety of projects.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, plans, and specifications.
  • Ensure quality and consistency across deliverables.
  • Provide guidance on complex design challenges.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Support knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
  • Build strong relationships with project teams and clients.
  • Understand project needs and deliver tailored, high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to a culture of exceptional client service.
