About The Position

The Principal Engineer is the organization’s senior-most, hands-on technical authority for cloud, platform, infrastructure, data, AI, networking, and identity services. This role provides strategic and architectural leadership across the enterprise platform ecosystem, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, compliant, and cost-effective. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Principal Engineer serves as the final escalation point for complex technical decisions and critical incidents. This role partners closely with IT leadership, Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, and business stakeholders to translate organizational objectives into durable, standards-based platform solutions that enable long-term business success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of six years of progressive experience in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering within complex enterprise environments, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced, hands‑on expertise with Microsoft Azure solutions and services, including identity platforms, networking, and security architecture
  • Demonstrated experience operating in regulated or risk‑sensitive environments, with strong analytical skills and a disciplined approach to documentation, controls, and compliance
  • Proven ability to act as a technical thought leader and trusted advisor, influencing IT and executive leadership on platform strategy and architectural decisions
  • Capable of communicating clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with individuals at all levels of financial understanding
  • Willingness and availability to provide after‑hours support, including one or more evenings per month, as required for critical platforms or incidents

Responsibilities

  • Design, own, and evolve enterprise platform architecture supporting a credit union environment, spanning cloud, infrastructure, identity, data, AI, networking, and productivity platforms, with a focus on member data protection, resiliency, availability, and cost stewardship
  • Define and govern enterprise platform strategy, architectural standards, and technical roadmaps aligned with credit union business objectives, NCUA and FFIEC guidance, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Serve as the senior technical authority and highest‑level escalation point for platform architecture decisions, design exceptions, and major incidents impacting member services or core banking operations
  • Engineer and optimize cloud, identity, productivity, data, and AI platforms to support secure member access, zero‑trust identity models, auditability, and integration with core banking and financial systems
  • Establish and enforce platform standards, reference architectures, configuration baselines, and lifecycle management practices to reduce operational risk, support examiner readiness, and improve service reliability
  • Ensure platforms are audit‑ready and comply with financial regulatory requirements, including NCUA, FFIEC, PATRIOT Act, and OFAC regulations, diligently identifying and reporting suspicious activity as required
  • Partner closely with IT leadership, Information Security, compliance, and business teams to translate member and organizational needs into secure, scalable, and sustainable technology platforms
