About The Position

As a Principal Engineer, Software Application Architecture, you will define and drive software architecture across client, cloud, or enterprise domains. You will design scalable, secure, and resilient software solutions and influence development tools, coding standards, and protocols to support optimal performance. Intel's Software group advances software technology that complements and enhances Intel hardware, working across domains to connect product innovation with software ecosystems. The role owns the end-to-end telemetry platform architecture, from field and validation data collection through the data lake to insights delivery. It drives crash analytics and reliability modeling, scales ingestion and analysis across millions of endpoints and thousands of data points, and partners with product architecture, validation, quality, and customer-enabling teams to turn telemetry into business actions. The engineer sets standards, mentors teams, defines quality metrics and predictive models, and leads scalable, secure in-field and application telemetry solutions. This role also formulates technical strategies aligned with organizational goals. The position is based at an Intel site in the United States and is eligible for a hybrid work model, splitting time between the assigned site and off-site work. It is a Position of Trust and requires consent to and passage of an extended background investigation, subject to applicable country law. The stated annual US target compensation range is $233,990 to $383,460; individual compensation depends on location and other factors.

  • At least 7 years of experience building field telemetry and data collection systems at scale, spanning millions of endpoints and thousands of data points.
  • Deep knowledge of Intel client platform architecture and Windows and Linux OS internals, including crash and reliability paths such as BSOD, live kernel dumps, machine checks, and event logs.
  • Software architecture skills focused on scalability, security, and resiliency in high-volume ingestion, storage, and analysis pipelines.
  • Hands-on development experience with modern data lake and analytics stacks, such as Snowflake, Databricks, and cloud services.
  • Ability to define coding standards, tooling, and validation processes.
  • Applied analytics or machine learning experience in failure classification, bucketing, de-duplication, anomaly detection, and predictive quality trending.
  • Experience delivering telemetry-based validation infrastructure supporting platform onboarding, flighting, and data collection.
  • Demonstrated success driving technical direction and execution for large-scale software programs.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and partner with external parties, including OEMs, Microsoft, and third-party telemetry providers.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical strategies to engineering and business audiences.
