About The Position

The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is seeking qualified individuals for the role of Principal Engineer (PE) in the Utilities Administration Division, focusing on the water and wastewater field. This position will support the Public Works & Utilities Director and Assistant Directors with long-range planning, capital budget development, complex engineering analyses, and coordination with city departments on capital projects and public infrastructure impacted by private developments. The role requires applying professional engineering principles in water resources, planning, development, programming, design, construction, and asset management. The Principal Engineer will also supervise assigned staff, interface with regulatory agencies, other governmental stakeholders, city residents, and utility customers.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field.
  • 8 years of experience as a registered engineer in water and wastewater utility design, construction, unit process control and optimization.
  • At least two (2) years of previous supervisory experience.
  • An Arizona Professional Engineer Licensure.
  • A valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Public Works & Utilities Director and Assistant Directors with long-range planning.
  • Assist with capital budget development.
  • Conduct complex engineering analyses.
  • Facilitate coordination with city departments on capital projects.
  • Oversee public infrastructure impacted by private developments.
  • Apply professional engineering principles and practices in water resources, planning, development, programming, design, construction, and asset management.
  • Work with various city operations and maintenance teams.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, other governmental stakeholders, city residents, and utility customers.
  • Supervise the daily operations of assigned staff, which may include professional, technical, and clerical personnel.
