About The Position

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration is hiring a Principal Engineer Network to support the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program. C2BMC integrates the Missile Defense System and enables strategic, regional, and operational leaders to plan ballistic missile defense operations, maintain a shared real-time view of the battlespace, and manage networked sensors and weapons systems. The program supports layered missile defense capabilities and ground and flight testing of current and future systems. The role supports a complex operational C2BMC network environment. It applies scripting, automation, configuration management, and network engineering practices to deliver solutions that meet performance, security, and availability requirements. The engineer works with an Agile team and collaborates with network, systems, cybersecurity, and operations personnel. The position is on-site at COS-83 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with no remote work option; deployment and travel may be required. The role requires a current active Top Secret clearance and an active Government-issued 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher.

  • Hands-on experience implementing or supporting network automation in an operational or mission-critical environment.
  • Experience in Agile or DevSecOps environments, including planning, daily standups, and iterative delivery.
  • Prior exposure to missile defense, command and control, or other DoD operational systems.

Responsibilities

  • Use scripting and automation tools such as Python, Ansible, Bash, and PowerShell to automate network configuration, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Apply configuration management best practices using GitLab or similar tools for infrastructure-as-code, version control, and change tracking.
  • Develop, document, and maintain formal processes and procedures for deployment and operation of capabilities in an operational network environment.
  • Work within an Agile team to plan, estimate, and execute work in alignment with customer requirements and contractual commitments.
  • Learn the C2BMC system architecture and technologies and apply that knowledge to design and implement solutions that meet system requirements.
  • Develop network-related products and solutions that meet performance, security, and availability requirements and deadlines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve physical and logical network issues involving routing, switching, firewalls, and related infrastructure.
  • Support real-world events, operational missions, tests, and exercises, including nights and weekends as mission needs dictate.
  • Collaborate with network engineers, system engineers, cybersecurity, and operations personnel to deliver integrated, mission-ready capabilities.
