About The Position

The Membrane Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of advanced membrane materials used in semiconductor filtration applications. This role involves hands-on formulation, casting, and characterization of immersion-cast membranes, development of novel membrane fabrication processes as well as collaboration with cross-functional teams in R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and quality. The engineer will contribute to both early-stage technology development and scale-up activities that support new product introduction.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or a related field, with at least 5 years of research experience and a demonstrated track record of technical innovation, scientific leadership, and development of advanced membrane technologies from concept through commercialization
  • Genuine passion for scientific research, experimentation, and problem-solving.
  • A strong can-do attitude, with the ability to tackle challenges proactively and independently.
  • Deep expertise in membrane materials, membrane manufacturing processes, filtration science and separation technologies
  • Proven hands-on experience developing and evaluating novel membrane materials and processes, from laboratory-scale concepts through prototype validation.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation and creative problem solving in the field of membrane formation
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional programs and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) processes for producing immersion-cast membranes.
  • Develop novel membranes through innovation in materials, membrane structures, and manufacturing processes, creating differentiated products that deliver breakthrough performance, scalability, and customer value.
  • Conduct laboratory-scale and pilot scale trials and support manufacturing-scale runs.
  • Analyze membrane performance using characterization tools such as porometry, SEM, mechanical testing, permeability/retention tests, and chemical compatibility evaluations.
  • Document experiments, create technical reports, and present findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead intellectual property generation efforts by identifying patentable innovations and contributing to patent applications, invention disclosures, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
  • Partner closely with operations and manufacturing teams to ensure robust process development, process optimization, and successful product launches.
  • Work with procurement, marketing, and product management to support cost, performance, and timeline objectives.
  • Troubleshoot material, process, or equipment issues related to membrane development.
  • Maintain safe laboratory practices, following all EH&S protocols.
  • Support customer interactions and technical discussions as needed.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $140,000 to $185,000 per year with actual pay dependent on candidate
