About The Position

The Principal Engineer, Mechanical Design will provide design support throughout all phases of the design cycle, from preliminary and detailed design through validation, manufacturing, and operational service. The role works on components within fan and low-pressure compressor (LPC) modules, including cases, frames, IBRs, bypass ducts, and kinematics. The engineer supports the installed 24K and 30K fleet by improving component commonality and optimization to meet current and future business and customer needs. The role also expands maintainability for commercial customers and MRO facilities, and supports development departments with testing and verification of field issues and redesigns. The position develops common procedures and standard work to improve organizational efficiency and quality; prepares data, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals; designs and reviews component layouts; calculates detail-component stack-ups; and conducts cost studies with supporting documentation. The engineer resolves difficult-to-complex design problems and reviews layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, standards compliance, specification conformity, and calculation and dimensioning accuracy. The role coordinates interrelated designs with other engineering personnel, provides technical leadership on integrated product teams, and may assist in training less-experienced engineers.
