About The Position

Microchip HRR has an opening in its Garden Grove office for a Principal Engineer – Design. The role leads development of power electrical converters and inverters for the aerospace product roadmap, managing projects from concept through production release. HRR is Microchip’s power systems division, designing, manufacturing, and marketing high-performance power-management modules and systems for space systems and other high-reliability applications, including flight-critical aviation power systems. The team partners with customers to provide differentiated solutions addressing system- and subsystem-level challenges, emphasizing validated products that work reliably throughout their product life cycles. The position also leads an electrical development team focused on power and mixed-signal design, mentors early-career engineers and new graduates, and develops verification and qualification plans and production acceptance procedures. Candidates are expected to demonstrate employment stability, accountability, effective cross-functional teamwork, and integrity in representing their qualifications. The position requires access to U.S. export-controlled technology, materials, software, or hardware; candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent U.S. residency, or protected-individual status as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3). Travel is 0%–25%.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering; emphasis in Power and Analog Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of electronic power conversion design experience, preferably in the aerospace field.
  • Demonstrated employment stability, reliability, and sustained accountability in prior roles.
  • Effective teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Integrity and accuracy in representing qualifications, experience, and credentials.
  • Experience designing power stages for isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters, including Buck, Boost, Flyback, Forward, Half-bridge, Full bridge, and Resonant converters.
  • Experience designing custom signal and power magnetics and power filters optimized for low noise and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Ability to collaborate with Mechanical Engineering teams on power converter designs optimized for electromechanical compliance requirements.
  • Strong expertise in electrical analysis, modelling, and simulation, including worst-case circuit analysis, electrical stress and derating analysis, small signal analysis, and power integrity analysis.
  • Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, MATLAB, or MathCAD.
  • Experience with electronics schematic capture and printed circuit board layout tools such as Altium or Xpedition.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present effectively to internal and external customers.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent U.S. residency, or protected-individual status as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3), due to U.S. export-control requirements.
