Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Building Envelope Consultant to provide technically sound solutions for existing building envelope failures and to support new construction and rehabilitation projects. This role works closely with property owners, developers, and contractors to deliver high-quality investigation, design, and consulting services across a wide variety of projects.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of commercial and residential building envelope systems, including appropriate material selection based on design intent
  • Expertise in the design and construction of envelope systems, including: Glazing systems, Cladding assemblies, Insulation and air barriers, Roofing and waterproofing systems
  • Ability to develop detailed drawings and specifications using building codes and ADA guidelines
  • Proficiency in researching building codes (historical and current) and zoning requirements
  • Skilled in assessing and evaluating building performance and system failures
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in: Building envelope design or investigation, Construction document preparation, Construction administration, Project management
  • Professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience leading or managing junior engineers/architects in building envelope assessment, testing, design, and construction oversight
  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills with the ability to manage budgets, scopes, and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients at all levels
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% (in-state and out-of-state)

Responsibilities

  • Complete design assignments related to upgrades, maintenance, and restoration of existing structures, as well as delegated design components and third-party design reviews for new construction
  • Conduct investigations, assessments, and repair recommendations for failed building envelope systems
  • Perform constructability reviews and third-party peer reviews of plans and specifications
  • Manage projects and multidisciplinary teams across both new construction and existing building projects, ensuring QA/QC standards are consistently met
  • Lead failure investigations and condition assessments, including providing litigation support when required
  • Research building histories, applicable codes (current and historical), and regulatory requirements
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while preparing: Technical condition reports, Repair designs, Bid documents, Addenda and change orders, Other construction documentation
  • Build, develop, and maintain strong client relationships to support business growth and client satisfaction
