About The Position

The Principal Advisor combines deep family wealth expertise with business development to ensure consistent delivery of the Westwood Way and drive firm growth. As the strategic leader of client relationships, responsible for ensuring that client households’ goals, values, and family dynamics are fully understood and reflected in their long-term wealth plan, the Principal Advisor orchestrates the right mix of resources across the firm and remains highly visible at key milestones—such as onboarding, major planning sessions, and family meetings. As a People Leader: The Houston Office Leader sets the tone for the office—modeling professionalism, collaboration, and a client-first mindset that reflects the Westwood Way. This leader promotes teamwork across offices, acts as a transformation champion, and mentors advisors to reinforce.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in sourcing, building, and deepening relationships with ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) families—resulting in new client engagements, expanded share of wallet, or multi-generational retention
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, including mentoring advisors, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability, and helping the team adopt new ways of working.
  • Experience serving as an office or practice leader, ideally in a multi-location wealth management or family office environment
  • Bachelor's degree; Economics, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 15+ years of experience as an advisor to UHNW families including holistic wealth planning & coordination across financial planning, investment strategy, risk management, estate and tax planning, and facilitating family meetings and communication
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is available.
  • You are able to build trust quickly and effectively with clients and prospective clients, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
  • You are skilled at navigating family dynamics with discretion and sensitivity.
  • You demonstrate presence and gravitas through your calm, steady leadership, confidence in client interactions, polished communication, and executive presence.
  • You see opportunities for client growth and firm growth as interconnected, and show persistence and creativity in cultivating referrals and other growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the strategic steward of client relationships, setting strategic direction for client engagements, ensuring holistic financial planning across investments, estate, tax, risk, and family culture & legacy needs that supports the family's goals.
  • Collaborate with Wealth Advisors and guide support staff on client service priorities, ensuring consistent delivery of the Westwood Way
  • Lead high-impact meetings (onboarding, milestone planning, family governance, estate transitions).
  • Mentor and develop junior talent, building depth in client teams.
  • Drive firm growth through referrals, business development, and marketplace visibility.
  • Promote teamwork within and across offices, act as a transformation champion, and mentor advisors to reinforce the skills and behaviors essential to becoming a premier multi-family office.
