About The Position

The Preventive Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities in excellent operating condition through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring optimal guest satisfaction by responding promptly and professionally to guest room maintenance requests and room call functionality concerns. The role requires strong hospitality-focused service skills, technical maintenance knowledge, and the ability to prioritize and complete work efficiently in a luxury hotel environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general maintenance practices including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of maintenance experience in hospitality, hotels, resorts, or commercial properties preferred.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift unassisted up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions typical of a beachfront hotel environment.
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, chemicals, noise, and maintenance-related hazards.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willing and available to fulfill changing operational demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training in Engineering, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related field preferred.
  • HVAC certification, electrical certification, or related trade certifications are considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs throughout guest rooms, corridors, public spaces, offices, and back-of-house areas.
  • Respond promptly to guest room maintenance calls and service requests with a strong focus on hospitality, urgency, professionalism, and guest satisfaction.
  • Troubleshoot and repair guest room functionality issues including HVAC systems, lighting, electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, drains, toilets, showers, sinks, televisions, safes, locks, door hardware, window treatments, and furniture.
  • Ensure all guest room equipment and amenities are fully operational and meet hotel quality standards prior to room occupancy.
  • Inspect guest rooms regularly to identify deficiencies and proactively address maintenance concerns before they affect the guest experience.
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical repairs as assigned.
  • Repair and replace faucets, shower heads, pipe sections, light bulbs, switches, circuit breakers, toilet components, door hardware, furniture components, and related equipment.
  • Ensure televisions, internet connectivity equipment, electronic locks, and related guest room technology systems remain functional and in proper working order.
  • Open and reset guest room safes as required.
  • Maintain all tools, engineering equipment, storage areas, and workshops in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Monitor inventory levels of engineering supplies and communicate material needs to supervisors.
  • Support sustainability initiatives by minimizing waste and promoting energy and water conservation practices.
  • Assist with emergency response situations, equipment failures, and operational needs as directed by Engineering leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed preventive maintenance and room call activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with Housekeeping, Front Office, and other departments to ensure timely room availability and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain the highest level of customer service and guest satisfaction according to the standards set forth by The Palms Hotel and Spa.
  • Ensure compliance with health and sanitation policies in all areas.
  • Adhere to all fire, safety, and security procedures according to hotel policy.
  • Adhere to all sustainability guidelines as per the Inspired by Nature Program.
