About The Position

The Press Operator is responsible for operating an aluminum extrusion press and its peripherals to extrude aluminum into specified shapes. This role requires the ability to read and interpret production orders, prints, and specifications, and to make necessary adjustments to equipment and settings to meet customer requirements. The operator must maintain a safe and clean work environment, participate in quality control and process improvement, and work effectively in a team setting. The position involves working in a non-air-conditioned shop environment with potential for overtime and fluctuating schedules.

Requirements

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, including decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to use a calculator.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers and heat probes, where interpretation is required.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend reference material such as production orders, prints and specifications.
  • Ability to exercise judgment to set up, adjust and operate an aluminum extrusion press and its peripherals to extrude aluminum is specified shapes, determining appropriate settings and operational sequences.
  • Excellent mental and visual attention to monitor extrusion operations involving repetitive or diversified work requiring constant alertness or activity.
  • Basic proficiency in computers.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of process related standards.
  • Proven ability to develop successful partnerships with internal and external team members.

Responsibilities

  • Work from schedules, production orders, prints and specifications.
  • Verify alloy and length of billet and set heater controls to proper specifications.
  • Operate the press with multi-function operation of multiple control panels in sequence.
  • Make adjustments to press and peripheral equipment to set up product layout guides and tooling.
  • Set and adjust parameters to ensure the material meets customer specifications.
  • Perform or assist with any departmental operations as required or directed.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Ensure safe operating conditions within the area of responsibility.
  • Assist in process examination and quality documentation, determine causes for problems, perform root cause analysis, and recommend solutions.
  • Assist in Press Equipment validations, safety and quality audits.
  • Work in a non air-conditioned shop environment.
  • Work in a team environment reacting to production conditions and routinely changing job functions.
  • Work overtime including weekends.
  • Keep up with normal production requirements while using proper body mechanics and working in a safe manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5 S standards.
  • Perform all duties within limitation of standard methods and procedures, and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity requirements.
