About The Position

The Apprentice - Press Operator position learns and performs printing-related tasks, including newsprint reel setup and operation, newsprint staging, roll preparation, plate processing and placement, basic ink setting, equipment maintenance, and specified reporting. The role supports efficient press operations to achieve on-time production, product quality standards, low waste, and operational safety. The apprentice works as part of a press crew to coordinate press and plate operations during an assigned shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds and push or pull up to 2,000 pounds (rolls of paper).
• Ability to work scheduled night shifts, weekends, and holidays on a rotation schedule.
• Ability to adapt to change, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, remain flexible, and interact with people while demonstrating patience.
• Ability to spend most working hours on one's feet, stand for long periods, climb stairs on a six-level press structure, and, for maintenance and some cleaning tasks, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl in tight areas.
• Color vision.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in web offset printing.
• Production experience.
• Mechanical ability and familiarity with computers.
• Previous machine operation or maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Report to scheduled shifts on time and ready to begin work.
• Work as a team to maintain on-time press performance and product quality standards and meet waste goals.
• Assist with plate, reel room, and press operations as assigned.
