About The Position

The Apprentice - Press Operator position learns and performs printing-related tasks, including newsprint reel setup and operation, newsprint staging, roll preparation, plate processing, placing printing plates, basic ink setting, equipment maintenance, and specified reporting. The role supports efficient press operations to help achieve and maintain on-time production, product quality standards, low waste, and operational safety. The apprentice works as part of a press crew to coordinate press and plate operations during an assigned shift and must report reliably, on time, and ready to work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to adapt to change, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, remain flexible, and interact with people while demonstrating patience.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull up to 2,000 pounds, such as rolls of paper.
• Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays on a rotation schedule.
• Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs on a six-level press structure, and, during maintenance or cleaning, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl in tight areas.
• Color vision is required.
• Must be reliable and report to scheduled shifts on time and ready to begin work.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in web offset printing.
• Production experience.
• Mechanical ability and familiarity with computers.
• Previous machine operation or maintenance experience.
