About The Position

The Press Operator I works full time in a fast-paced manufacturing operation at Gannett Publishing Services’ Wilmington regional print facility. The role assists with daily production on Goss HO presses, working with a team to prepare the presses for production, operate presses or their components, clean presses and the pressroom, maintain the presses’ mechanical readiness, and perform other assigned duties. The pressroom team works toward producing high-quality printed products, observing scheduled start and stop times, conserving material resources—especially newsprint—and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. The position pays $20 per hour, based on work-related experience, and involves full-time shift work that may include scheduled nights and weekends.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull up to 2,000 pounds.
• Ability to spend most working hours on one’s feet and stand for long periods.
• Ability to climb stairs on the six-level press structure.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for press maintenance and some cleaning activities, including working in confined areas.
• Color vision.
• Ability to adapt to change, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, remain flexible, and interact with people while demonstrating patience.

Nice To Haves

• Three years of experience in web offset printing is desirable; production experience of any kind may be helpful.
• Mechanical ability.
• Familiarity with computers.
