About The Position

The Press Molding Operator produces molded pad sheets using a hydraulic press and a high-heat process. The operator spreads and monitors swing jigs with rubber pellets, starts the press cycle, inspects molded pads, removes defects, and monitors sheet-pad thickness and weight against specifications. The role also involves documenting production, scrap, and downtime; reporting equipment problems; and maintaining a clean and safe work area.

This position is based at BD’s primary work location in Sumter, South Carolina. The job description notes that extended hours, including weekends, may be required. The work environment includes moving mechanical parts, noise, vibration, and chemical fumes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
• Ability to work extended hours as required, including weekends.
• Ability to work around moving mechanical parts and exposure to noise, vibration, and chemical fumes.

Responsibilities

• Operate presses according to standard operating procedures (SOP).
• Spread and monitor swing jigs with rubber pellets and start press cycles using the push-start button.
• Load and unload materials manually.
• Inspect each molded pad, remove defects, and report quality or safety issues to setup personnel or a supervisor.
• Monitor pad thickness, weight, and process temperature according to specifications.
• Maintain records of daily production, scrap, downtime, press logs, and other documentation.
• Report equipment problems or breakdowns immediately to setup personnel or a supervisor.
• Clean the work area, presses, and associated equipment; maintain a neat and safe workspace.
• Maintain production boards, paperwork, and completed pallets of production.
