About The Position

The Compression Machine Operator I is responsible for operating the press work cells in the wet process or SMC/BMC processes to achieve the daily production requirements. The machine operator is responsible for checking the press's safety devices before use and ensuring that all necessary tools and materials are available in the work cell to produce the product accurately. The machine operator is responsible for meeting the quality and efficiency standards while maintaining a safe work environment in either the wet process or the SMC/BMC process. The Machine Operator I is responsible for effectively training personnel in the processes they are designated to and trained on. Other job duties include cleaning the equipment and the surrounding work cell area, properly storing all tools and supplies, and following all safety and company policies.

Requirements

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Must be proficient in “one of the three” machine operator processes (Wet Process, SMC process, BMC process).
Must be willing to effectively train personnel using clear communication with a positive approach.
Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma/ G.E.D., or up to 3 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bi-lingual in Spanish speaking a plus.

Responsibilities

Operate press work cells in the wet process or SMC/BMC processes to achieve daily production requirements.
Check the press's safety devices before use.
Ensure all necessary tools and materials are available in the work cell to produce the product accurately.
Meet quality and efficiency standards while maintaining a safe work environment.
Effectively train personnel in the processes they are designated to and trained on.
Clean the equipment and the surrounding work cell area.
Properly store all tools and supplies.
Follow all safety and company policies.
Check with Supervisor on control transition sheet (operator work cell schedule) to start in designated work cell.
Check with Supervisor on schedule and make sure of correct SMC/BMC, or wet resin and glass, and materials needed to produce accordingly.
Ensure proper tools (scoop, suction cups, trim tool, etc.) are available.
Make sure safety devices are functional (light curtains, E-stop buttons, resin carts, etc.).
Be proficient in “one of the three” machine operator processes (Wet Process, SMC process, BMC process).
Place fiberglass cloth (Glass Mat and Surface Mat) and metal wire borders (if required) on molding table (Wet Process).
Pour liquid resin into fiberglass sandwich, and repeat that process as necessary (Wet Process).
Check the weight of the resin pour against standard (Wet Process).
Position materials into press and operate press (Wet Process).
Pull SMC to desired length to cut charge per standard, or prepare BMC charge on scale (SMC Process).
Check SMC/BMC charge weight against standard (SMC Process).
Place SMC charge centered on CT Rubber sheet (SMC Process).
Position material charge correctly onto mold surface and operate press (SMC Process).
Trim trays/covers correctly using safe practices (SMC Process).
Inspect trays/covers for defects (SMC Process).
Check weight of the molded tray/cover against standard (SMC Process).
Stack trays/covers produced on cooling rack / trim table (SMC Process).
Keep machine and area clean, well-organized, and put all tools and materials in proper storage locations.
