About The Position

Under the general supervision of the preschool director, the preschool teacher strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for leadership; works as a member of the preschool team; develops an appropriate learning and social environment; evaluates the needs of each student; assists in developing and supervising all areas; evaluates and reports student progress; establishes positive school community relationships; continues professional development; performs other job related tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the director.

Requirements

  • Must meet Ministry Formation Certification as required by Diocesan Policy.
  • If Catholic, willing to make a Public Profession of Faith.
  • Ability to comply with the requirements specified in the Arizona Department of Health Daycare Licensing Regulations.
  • Must have a high school or high school equivalency diploma and six months of child care experience or NAC, CDA, CCP, or CPC credential or Associate degree from an accredited college or university in the areas of early childhood, childhood development or closely related field.
  • Participated in Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Ethics.
  • FBI Fingerprint Clearance completed.

Responsibilities

  • Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education, including showing evidence of the Catholic philosophy of education, promoting Gospel values and Catholic moral teachings, upholding the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church, and exemplifying Catholic living both in and out of the classroom.
  • Assumes responsibility for the leadership of the classes assigned, demonstrating knowledge of effective teaching techniques and child development, providing daily instruction, selecting appropriate learning activities, establishing learning outcomes based on Diocesan Early Childhood Standards, developing and evaluating lesson plans, acting as a positive role model, and being adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations.
  • Works as a member of the preschool team by attending staff meetings and assigned trainings, participating in parent activities, maintaining a professional attitude, and using positive communication skills.
  • Develops an appropriate learning and social environment by working towards the creation of a Catholic community, creating a room arrangement conducive to educational objectives, fostering an environment that promotes learning and social interaction, and ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
  • Evaluates the needs of each student by observing and recording child development information, altering learning activities to meet specific needs, and referring students with suspected learning challenges to the Director.
  • Assists in the development and supervision of all areas by consulting with the director and staff, providing appropriate materials, and ensuring the safety of the area.
  • Evaluates and reports student progress by regularly observing and maintaining records, reporting progress to the director, and conferring with parents as needed.
  • Establishes positive school community relationships by maintaining cooperative relations with parents, providing for regular conferences and meetings with parents, cooperating with and promoting all school programs, and maintaining awareness of their role as a Catholic preschool teacher and its impact on the community.
  • Continues professional development by remaining current with religious and academic standards, keeping informed of current instructional practices, participating in professional activities and organizations, attending school and diocesan sponsored in-services and staff development opportunities, and attending faculty meetings.
  • Performs any other job related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the director.
