About The Position

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking two caring and motivated Paraprofessionals to work with blind/low-vision preschool students. These positions are located in Springville and will be under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Low Vision. The role involves preparing teaching materials, tutoring individual students, communicating student progress, assisting with behavior interventions, and supporting daily classroom activities. The positions are part-time, 29 hours per week, for nine months each school year.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions
  • Ability to enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form
  • Ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students and/or lift over 50 pounds
  • Ability to deal with risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
  • Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
  • Perform duties related to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
  • Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
  • Assist with routine daily activities, i.e. bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom (may include diapering), etc.
  • Provide support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students
  • Maintain accurate records and logs
  • Design and/or prepare training/instructional materials, teaching aids and devices
