About The Position

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking a caring and motivated Paraprofessional to work with their blind/low-vision preschool students. This position is located in Ogden and operates under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Low Vision. The role involves preparing teaching materials, tutoring individual students, communicating student progress, assisting with behavior interventions, and supporting routine daily activities. This is a part-time position for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, thirty (30) hours per week.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students and/or lift over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to deal with risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

  • Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization.
  • Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
  • Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
  • Perform duties related to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
  • Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
  • Assist with routine daily activities, i.e. bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom (may include diapering), etc.
  • Provides support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students.
  • Maintains accurate records and logs.
  • Designs and/or prepares training/instructional materials, teaching aids and devices.
