About The Position

This is a long-term preschool co-teacher position requiring 40 hours weekly. The role involves maintaining prekindergarten licensure or other credential requirements and adhering to child care regulations as presented in Department of Human Services, Statute 9503 (Rule 3). The co-teacher will document and report suspected cases of child abuse to Child Protection, complete required in-service training annually, and maintain personal training hours. First-aid/CPR training is required every two years. The position involves directly supervising the preschool program and maintaining a high standard of performance, ethics, integrity, and professionalism by treating children, parents, co-workers, and the university community with dignity and respect. Responsibilities include training and supervising student employees, supervising practicum/student teachers, preparing classroom plans for substitutes, and ensuring the daily needs of each child are met. Regular meetings with the Co-Teacher are scheduled to discuss classroom management, and curriculum planning and implementation are done collaboratively with the team teacher. The role also includes maintaining specific learning areas as specified in DHS Rule 3, planning and posting weekly lesson plans, maintaining bulletin boards, and ensuring a clean and organized classroom and shared spaces. Collaboration with consultants for center development or improvement is expected. Daily attendance records must be maintained. Communication with parents occurs informally through verbal communication, telephone, email, and Lillio. Parents will be informed when children are ill or injured, and accident reports will be completed and signed by parents when necessary. Important paperwork for the office will be placed in the office folder. Individual child assessment and portfolio documentation will be maintained. Participation in two parent conferences annually and planning/participation in Family events are required. Collaboration with other center staff and participation in staff curriculum planning and weekly staff meetings are also part of the role. Daily safety checks of the room, large motor space, and playground are necessary, along with daily maintenance of the kitchen area (a shared responsibility). The director will be informed of any safety concerns or supply needs.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with Co-Teacher to discuss management of classroom on a weekly basis
  • Plan and implement curriculum along with team teacher
  • Maintains learning areas as specified in DHS Rule 3: Large muscle, Art and music (easel, markers, play-dough, etc.), Dramatic play (2 areas), Reading area, Science, Manipulatives (puzzles, games), Block area, Water and/or sand area
  • Plan, post and implement weekly lesson plans
  • Maintain bulletin boards in the preschool classroom
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom and shared spaces and work cooperatively with other classroom staff to clean and organize shared materials
  • Work with consultants for the development or improvement of the center
  • Maintain daily attendance records

  • Complete accident reports when necessary and get parent signature

  • Conduct daily maintenance of kitchen area, (refrigerator, dishes, trash, laundry, etc.) THIS IS A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY AMONG ALL STAFF
  • Inform director of any safety concerns in the center
  • Inform director of supply needs
