About The Position

St. John Paul II Academy is hiring a Substitute Teacher for the middle campus. The Substitute Teacher supports the instructional program by maintaining a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role requires following the provided lesson plans, supervising students at all times, and ensuring continuity of learning and classroom expectations. The Substitute Teacher upholds school policies, models respectful behavior, and communicates effectively with students and staff to support a positive and faith‑centered school environment. The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ’s mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Teaching or instruction skills are preferred
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Communicate professionally with staff, students and community members
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations on the campus and in the classroom
  • Manage classroom and set expectations for students
  • Follow the teacher's lesson plan and provide instruction to students to work on the assignment given
  • Keep all information about individual students confidential
  • Seek guidance from Principal when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
