About The Position

The Presales Engineering Intern will work closely with Communication Systems Engineers who design radio communication solutions from initial concepts through implementation. The team consults with customers to understand their requirements and develops solutions to meet their needs. In collaboration with sales, product development, and project management, the intern will contribute to technical strategies, customer proposals, system design, and project implementation. The role also supports keeping sales professionals and customers informed about Motorola Solutions’ technology offerings and their relevance to customer needs.

This is a full-time, hybrid internship scheduled Monday through Friday. Preferred candidates live in Chicago or the Chicago suburbs. Travel is under 10%, and relocation is not provided. Candidates must be authorized to work indefinitely in the United States; employer work permit sponsorship is unavailable. Interns must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, expect to graduate on or after December 2027, and return to school in Fall 2027.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with an expected graduation date on or after December 2027.
• Must return to school in Fall 2027.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States indefinitely; employer work permit sponsorship is not available.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences.
• Self-motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with customers.
• Experience or knowledge in radio systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless, broadband, microwave, and/or networking.
• Experience or knowledge of communications networks such as MPLS, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.
• Certifications through CCNA, CompTIA, and/or Amateur Radio/HAM.
• Living in Chicago or the Chicago suburbs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop technical strategies and generate customer proposals in collaboration with sales, product development, and project management.
• Coordinate the design and planning of customer solutions using advanced technologies and provide technical support during the presales phase.
• Support coverage and antenna site selection, frequency planning, interference analysis, system architecture design, equipment selection, proposal generation, and customer presentations.
• Participate in implementation of solutions as originally conceived.
• Take responsibility for technical aspects of assigned projects from award through system acceptance, including implementation planning, system acceptance testing, coverage testing, and system staging.
• Keep sales professionals and customers informed about Motorola Solutions’ latest technology offerings and their relevance to customer needs.
