About The Position

The PrePress Operator is responsible for facilitating the output of pages, prioritizing tasks to ensure on-time performance. This role involves checking pages against press layouts, color positions, and split run notices, and communicating with various divisions (Advertising, Editorial, Production, and Circulation) to meet deadlines and maintain high quality standards. The operator will monitor input spoolers, Rips, and output to Imagesetters to prevent workflow backups or delays. Additionally, they will coordinate workflow for a timely flow of pages to the Pressroom, perform final PrePress reviews of pages to ensure all elements are present and flow correctly, and record pages ready for plating. The role also includes maintaining PrePress equipment and collaborating with Newsroom and Advertising personnel to achieve quality output and meet deadlines. Proficiency in all PrePress functions, including Make-up, Page output, plate-making, and equipment maintenance, is required.

  • Ability to work closely with Newsroom and Advertising personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Advertising, Editorial, Production and Circulation Divisions to meet deadlines and assure the highest possible quality.
  • Observe input spoolers, Rips, and Output to Imagesetters to prevent backups to workflow or delays caused by fluctuations in traffic to the devices.
  • Coordinate workflow to maintain timely flow of pages to Pressroom.
  • Make final PrePress review of pages, assuring all elements flow to page and are present.
  • Record, as necessary, the pages ready to be plated.
  • Maintain PrePress equipment.
  • Work closely with Newsroom and Advertising personnel to achieve quality output of pages and meet deadlines.
  • Be proficient in all PrePress functions – Make-up, Page output, plate-making, and equipment maintenance.
