About The Position

McKinnon's is seeking a hands-on Prepared Foods Team Lead for its Portsmouth store. The role helps lead daily kitchen and prepared foods operations while working alongside the team to prepare, cook, package, and display meals and side dishes. The lead maintains food quality and safety, coordinates prep and production, supports team members, monitors inventory and waste, and provides friendly customer service. The position is performed in person.

Requirements

Experience in prepared foods, a commercial kitchen, catering, restaurant cooking, or a similar setting.
Strong organization, communication, and time management skills.
A dependable, positive approach and willingness to work alongside the team.
Attention to food quality, cleanliness, and customer service.
Availability to work a retail schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Ability to perform the essential duties of an active kitchen role, with reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Help lead daily operations in the kitchen and prepared foods department.
Work alongside the team to prepare, cook, package, and display meals and side dishes.
Maintain consistent food quality, freshness, presentation, and portion sizes.
Coordinate daily prep and production to keep popular items available throughout the day.
Train and support team members, helping prioritize tasks during busy periods.
Follow food safety procedures, including proper cooking, cooling, holding temperatures, labeling, and sanitation.
Monitor inventory, rotate products, and help control waste.
Keep work areas, equipment, and displays clean and organized.
Provide friendly customer service and answer questions about prepared foods.
Communicate department needs and concerns to store management.
