About The Position

Boxcar is a quality-focused food and beverage company in Boulder, Colorado, operating an award-winning coffee wholesale program and two vibrant cafe spaces with extensive bakery and food programs. As a Line Cook, you will use quality ingredients to produce approachable yet classic food with fresh twists. This role involves mixing dough, baking bread, roasting vegetables and meats, cooking jams and sauces, and preparing visually appealing toasts. It is an all-encompassing kitchen production role, not a simple food re-heating position. The role requires interaction with fellow cooks, barista staff, and guests, fostering an efficient and supportive work environment. We are seeking service-oriented individuals with Back of House (BOH) experience or a strong interest in BOH kitchen work. This is a part-time position (25-30 hours/week) with potential for full-time (30-35 hours/week). Shifts are scheduled two weeks in advance, and flexibility with some weekend availability is required. Currently seeking availability for Opening (6am-2pm) and Closing (8:30am-4:30pm) shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Prep food according to recipes, including spreads, marinades, and jams, using equipment like hand mixers, food processors, and induction burners, and be able to adjust yield sizes.
  • Complete required trainings to ensure competency and safety when working with knives, automatic slicer, etc.
  • Multitask between prep work and fulfilling orders through a ticketing system.
  • Assemble meals to order according to plating examples and measurements provided.
  • Batch produce ready-to-eat food for later consumption, including sandwiches and salads.
  • Weigh out precise portions of meat, cheese, and vegetables for menu items using an automatic slicer and scales.
  • Comply with food safety guidelines regarding food preparation, storage, and serving to avoid contamination.
  • Wash dishes using an industrial dishwasher or a 3-bay sink before letting them dry and returning them to their proper spot.
  • Clearly communicate prep lists and other needs for next day production.
  • Receive and put away food and operational goods orders from vendors when necessary.
  • Report any issues with food or equipment to your manager in a timely manner.
  • Cross-train on register to be able to support the FOH during busier times.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as a professional demeanor in dealing with guests and co-workers alike.
  • Perform other tasks such as cleaning and stocking as necessary.
