About The Position

Major Food Group is hiring experienced Prep Cooks to join the team at Dirty French, an energetic bistro located in the Ludlow Hotel on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Created by Major Food Group and its co-founders Jeff Zalaznick, Mario Carbone, and Rich Torrisi, Dirty French draws on classic French cuisine and uses modern techniques and bold flavors. The restaurant has received two stars from The New York Times. The Prep Cook prepares food and cooks menu items in coordination with kitchen staff, while keeping their station stocked, organized, and clean. The role follows instructions from executive or sous chefs and helps ensure that dishes are delivered together, at a high standard, and on time.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in high-volume and fine-dining restaurants is preferred, but not required.
A culinary diploma or equivalent experience is strongly preferred.
Team-oriented with a positive attitude.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Responsibilities

Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies.
Prepare food for service, such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and preparing sauces.
Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff.
Answer, report, and follow executive or sous chef instructions.
Clean the station and take care of leftover food.
Stock inventory appropriately.
Ensure food is served simultaneously, in high quality, and in a timely fashion.
