About The Position

The Level 3 Optical Technician is an independent, quality-driven professional who builds complex systems to meet production demand. Operating with high speed and precision, this role provides technical mentorship to other technicians and bridges the gap between Engineering and production.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a technology specialty (e.g., machine tools, electronics, optics) OR High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 10+ years of experience in optical inspection or assembly.
  • Ability to work across multiple product lines and train team members.
  • Familiarity with laser alignment systems, optical power meters, interferometers, autocollimators, and spectrometers.
  • Experience applying inspection, assembly, and alignment skills in a development environment.
  • Experience with process development and technical process writing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot at an intermediate level using system-level understanding.
  • Ability to navigate and work across several software platforms.
  • Competency in advanced interferometry and QVI testing.
  • Ability to lead teams, train staff, identify issues, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours per workday).
  • Physical capability to lift up to 35 lbs. without assistance.
  • Proficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise optical work.
  • Willingness to grow, adapt, and take on new responsibilities.

  • Experience cementing doublets and stacking lenses with high precision.

Responsibilities

  • Build optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electro-mechanical systems according to work instructions.
  • Conduct testing on completed assemblies and accurately record performance data.
  • Diagnose complex assembly issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Receive direction from management and coordinate with coworkers to meet production demand.
  • Assist Engineering with prototype assembly, alignment, testing, and performance reporting.
  • Help transition new products to the production floor by developing robust assembly and test processes.
  • Provide technical support, coaching, and guidance to other Optical Technicians.
  • Inspect components, report quality issues immediately, and support resolution through NCPs and RMAs.
  • Maintain strict cleanliness in the work center and uphold ISO, 5S, and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Account for all components, keep assembly jobs organized, and accurately report labor hours.
  • Manage tools and supplies at designated work centers, reporting any broken, missing, or shorted items.
