About The Position

FiberTel is hiring a Pre-Sales Engineer for our San Jose, CA location. A Pre‑Sales Engineer specializing in fiber‑optic telecommunications who partners with sales, engineering, and construction teams to design, validate, and price fiber network solutions. Provides technical expertise for OSP (aerial & underground) and ISP environments, ensuring proposed builds are feasible, cost‑accurate, and aligned with customer requirements and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
  • Experience working with telecommunication providers in the Bay Area
  • Strong communication and customer‑facing skills
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business‑friendly language
  • Ability to accurately model costs and risk assessment
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and applicable Engineering programs.
  • Good Written and oral communication.
  • You’re the person who can explain: “Yes, we can build here.” “Here’s the route and cost.” “Here’s why aerial is cheaper but underground is required in this segment.” “Here’s the timeline and permitting impact.”

Responsibilities

  • Develop high‑level fiber network designs, including route selection, fiber counts, splice points, and construction methods for aerial and underground OSP builds.
  • Conduct desktop and field evaluations to determine constructability, pole availability, duct capacity, and environmental or permitting constraints.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, BOMs, labor breakdowns, and construction budgets for proposed fiber builds.
  • Participate in customer meetings to gather requirements, present technical solutions, and provide expert guidance on fiber architecture and deployment options.
  • Perform on‑site assessments to validate routes, identify obstacles, and confirm aerial/underground construction methods.
  • Work closely with OSP engineers, construction managers, permitting teams, and GIS/CAD groups to ensure proposed solutions are accurate and executable.
  • Produce high‑level designs (HLDs), route maps, technical proposals, and engineering summaries for customer bids and RFP responses.
  • Identify potential construction risks, permitting delays, and regulatory requirements impacting project scope or timeline.
