About The Position

The Pre-K Instructor teaches and supervises Pre-K students, ensures compliance with program requirements, assists with parent education programs, and coordinates communications with parents.

Requirements

  • Selected candidates must be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Child Development Associate Certification or Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education-related field, and a kindergarten transition plan
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledgeable in Pre-K classroom teaching and management skills, age-appropriate activities, stages of child development, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and concepts of learning
  • Basic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) and experience using data-based software
  • Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
  • Experience operating standard office equipment, including phone, scanner, fax, and copy machines

  • Experience teaching pre-K classes or leading pre-K activities

Responsibilities

  • Assess student learning, participation, and skills to provide quality, age-appropriate instruction
  • Supervise academic enrichment activities (e.g., class activities, field trips, visits by guests, etc.), guiding students in learning from those enhancements
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports, document student progress (e.g., attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) and implement lesson plans
  • Provide for the individual needs of students (e.g., assistive devices, supportive technology, assistance accessing facilities, etc.) to ensure access to a quality educational program
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment, and report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, neglect, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to ensure compliance with administrative and school policies and state and federal law
  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, plan curriculum, convey information on student progress, and encourage parental involvement
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying, data recording, etc.) to support the administrator and department
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees, students, and stakeholders
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars, as assigned to convey or gather information required to perform functions
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
