About The Position

The primary duty of the Pre-K for at-risk Aide is to assist the classroom teacher to reinforce teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups. The Pre-K for at-risk Aide also helps support and supervise classroom students as assigned by the classroom teacher. District 155 expects candidates to be child-centered professionals with a high degree of energy, flexibility, and initiative. Expectations are that paraprofessionals are clear verbal and written communicators, have well-developed interpersonal skills, practice reflective teaching, and seek continuous self-improvement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 60 semester hours of college credit or pass the Praxis Exam or pass WorkKey assessments
  • letter of approval from ISBE with appropriate certification
  • experience with children in an educational setting

Nice To Haves

  • specifically in reading improvement instruction preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow through on teacher strategies for reinforcing material or skill based on an understanding of individual students, their needs interest and abilities;
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by teacher;
  • Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic test as the teacher recommends for individual students;
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher;
  • Checks notebooks, corrects paper and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher;
  • Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling;
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher;
  • Relates information to the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student as determined by the special area teacher;
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and their families and other employs outside the school as expected of fully licensed teachers;
  • Participates, as requested, in professional workshops, attend staff meetings and other recommended training programs;
  • Assists in modifying class work as needed for student to achieve success;
  • Treat all students and staff with dignity and respect.
