About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Practicum Applications, this role supports students in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program as they prepare for practicum. The Practicum Advisor guides students through pre-practicum requirements, reviews applications and documentation, tracks student progress, and collaborates with university teams to ensure students are prepared for their placements. This is a fully remote role open to candidates across Canada.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing a large volume of detailed and confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs, maintain accurate records, and contribute as a collaborative member of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and data management tools.
  • Comfortable learning new systems and software.
  • Ability to use technology effectively to organize information, maintain documentation, and support day-to-day processes.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and communicate professionally with graduate students, prospective students, faculty, university staff, and other professionals.
  • Ability to adapt communication to different audiences, provide clear information, and navigate challenging conversations with diplomacy and sound judgment.
  • Strong conflict resolution and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to remain thoughtful and professional when situations are sensitive or challenging.
  • Approach barriers with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding of the diverse experiences and needs of graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Guide students through the pre-practicum process, providing clear, responsive support, answering questions, clarifying requirements, and providing direction on documentation and steps.
  • Review practicum applications and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy, following established university requirements and processes.
  • Communicate with students when additional information or action is needed and help keep applications moving forward.
  • Monitor students as they move through the different stages of the pre-practicum process, maintaining accurate and confidential electronic records.
  • Manage a high volume of information and follow up on outstanding requirements to help students stay on track.
  • Correspond with students and work with practicum sites, potential supervisors, faculty, and university colleagues to support a well-coordinated practicum process.
  • Communicate professionally and thoughtfully, helping ensure everyone has the information they need.
  • Help maintain and update pre-practicum documents, resources, and presentations as requirements and processes evolve.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day effectiveness of the team and take on additional activities that support students and the practicum application process.
