About The Position

The Practical Nursing (PN) Instructor is responsible for instructing students, organizing curriculum content, overseeing classroom management, and maintaining accurate records for each student in the courses they teach. The role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to navigate student learning systems and related instructional platforms. The individual must demonstrate strong writing and communication skills, professionalism, sound judgment, and a solid work ethic, along with the organizational ability to maintain accurate tracking systems. A high degree of confidentiality must be maintained in all aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved registered or practical nursing education program; Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • An active RN license or multistate license or privilege to practice that is not encumbered and meets requirements of the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • At least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse and one additional year for a total of three years working in either nursing or patient care.
  • Instructional training, classroom, clinical or laboratory settings.
  • An acceptable background check is required for employment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to navigate student learning systems and related instructional platforms.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Professionalism, sound judgment, and a solid work ethic.
  • Organizational ability to maintain accurate tracking systems.
  • High degree of confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Prior teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a syllabus for each course the Practical Nurse Instructor teaches that includes the course title, lecture/lab/clinical hour breakdown, course description, course learning objectives, method of instruction, course instructions, instructor professional bio, assessment methods, bio information on additional instructors that will participate in the delivery of the course, textbook(s) and supporting student resources, and location of the class.
  • Develop lesson plans that include lecture and/or lab delivery methods, assignments/activities, homework and evaluation tools for assigned classes as designated by the college provided curriculum.
  • Instruct and guide students in the classroom and/or lab learning environment, as designated by the college provided curriculum.
  • Demonstrate procedures/processes and operate/demonstrate the use of appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum.
  • Grade and evaluate students' work in a timely manner and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist and tutor students with areas of the curriculum with which they are having difficulty.
  • Keep accurate and up to date progress reports on students' work.
  • Compile reports/updates on students as required.
  • Complete student follow-up as requested, following Valley College communication protocols.
  • Maintain a cooperative and professional learning environment.
  • If designated for clinical work site instruction, the Practical Nurse Instructor is responsible for the supervision of students while they are at their clinical (off-site) experience as per the rules and regulations set by their program and the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Conduct evaluation of course material as outlined in the Valley College Nursing program bylaws.
  • Participate in the selection of books and materials.
  • Maintain student handouts, tests, assignments, and course syllabus as directed by the Program Administrator.
  • At the conclusion of each course, faculty shall: Compare the planned clinical and laboratory hours outlined in the syllabus with the actual hours delivered to students and submit the required summary to the PN Program Administrator.
  • Provide clinical and laboratory hour data and other information to support the PN Program Administrator's preparation of the Annual Report to the Ohio Board of Nursing or other reports, as requested.
  • Develop a professional development (self-development and professional growth plan).
  • Provide support documentation that demonstrates the professional development plan has been executed.
  • Attend faculty meetings and required professional development/compliance related webinars.
  • Other duties as assigned.
