About The Position
This is skilled work requiring knowledge of construction. The work involves performing heavy manual labor and using hand tools to assemble. The role participates in light construction work at City-owned properties and performs minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and concrete work, as well as safety inspections as required. The position involves prolonged heavy labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, and exposure to a range of environmental and workplace hazards.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Two years of experience in general labor work.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of tools and standard practices used in labor operations.
- Ability to understand and apply safe practices when using hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods, often under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.
- Ability to lift, shovel, walk or stand for most of the time; regularly and repeatedly carry 35–50 pounds and frequently exert up to 100 pounds of force.
- Normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
