Powertrain Systems Engineer

ANAHenderson, NV
$90,000 - $100,000Onsite

About The Position

Alliance North America (ANA) is seeking a versatile Powertrain Systems Engineer to join their team in Henderson, Nevada. This onsite role involves a significant amount of hands-on work, focusing on the physical application, validation, and optimization of diesel engine technology within power generation equipment. The engineer will specialize in hands-on testing, thermodynamic analysis, and mechanical integration of diesel engines. Responsibilities include troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, ensuring emissions compliance, and optimizing engine performance. The role requires a strong floor presence, working directly with engine components and testing lab equipment. The Powertrain Systems Engineer will collaborate with ANA's Mechanical Design team to implement engine-related design improvements. ANA is a growing organization and a recognized industry leader, proudly named a 2025 Top Workplace in the Manufacturing Industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Strong academic or practical background in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and internal combustion engine mechanics.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, hands-on product validation, performance testing, or a similar development role.
  • Experience working in testing or engineering capacities within industries such as power generation, heavy machinery, compressors, battery storage, or engines, including fixed-speed and variable-speed engine applications.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, and quality control principles.
  • Advanced proficiency with engine diagnostic tools, data acquisition systems, and performance testing equipment such as flow meters and load banks.
  • Basic familiarity with CAD software to interpret drawings is helpful, but advanced modeling is not the primary focus of this role.
  • Ability and willingness to support testing, documentation, and regulatory certification efforts for variable-speed engine platforms, including emissions, performance, and application-specific compliance requirements.
  • Strong technical writing skills and high attention to detail for engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in utilizing engineering and enterprise software platforms, including Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Business Central ERP.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot) to assist with technical problem-solving, data analysis, and workflow automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills, and strong project management capabilities, aligning with our core value of Root Cause Problem Solving.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment and independently when required.
  • Comfortable working in a growing organization where processes are being built, refined, and scaled.
  • Must be based in the United States and authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
  • ANA does not provide employment-based visa sponsorship for this position at this time.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Specialize in the mechanical integration, structural mounting, and performance validation of diesel and variable-speed engines used within ANA’s power generators and hybrid energy systems.
  • Support calibration, load-response evaluation, and operational optimization across fixed-speed and variable-speed applications.
  • Work extensively on the manufacturing floor and in testing environments to evaluate engines under extreme operational conditions.
  • Utilize advanced mechanical diagnostic tools to resolve complex engine, thermodynamic, and vibrational challenges.
  • Physically assemble, wire, tear down, and modify prototype engine units and test fixtures.
  • Take a hands-on approach to modifying equipment and evaluating functional performance to ensure machinery meets strict quality and power output standards.
  • Evaluate engine integrations for manufacturability, partnering closely with design and process engineers to identify strategic areas for physical structural improvement, waste reduction, and production floor cost efficiency.
  • Generate and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), testing validation logs, and assembly work instructions.
  • Partner with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and product managers to communicate testing outcomes, define clear product specifications, and guide mechanical integration updates.
