About The Position

Toyota’s Powertrain Calibration Engineering – 1 (PCE1) Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Powertrain Calibration Principal Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to calibrate the engine control systems to meet Toyota, regulatory, and customer requirements. Reporting to a PCE1 Manager, the person in this role will support the PCE1 department's objective to calibrate world class powertrains in America.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other technical disciplines.
  • Must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience in Engine Calibration.
  • Must have a minimum 5+ of Mechanical Engineering Principles along with analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Must have a minimum of 3+ years of experience in drivability calibration development (i.e. Power/Performance, Shock/Response, S&S, Startability, etc.).
  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of a thorough understanding of Internal Combustion Engine Theory/Practice.
  • Must have 3+ years of experience with MATLAB/Simulink/C/C++ programming languages.
  • Must have at least 3+ years of experience leading a team/project and working well in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Must have at least 3+ years of experience investigating complex technical issues and creating effective technical solutions.
  • 1+ years of experience with Model-Based calibration processes.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, up to 10-15% during peak periods and high demands.
  • Must have an excellent driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other technical disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience working on vehicles either through SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), previous co-op or similar experience.
  • Understanding of Emission and OBD regulations for US and other markets.
  • Experience in another calibration area (Base Map, Emissions, Fuel Economy, Software Management).
  • Experience with other programming languages such as Python and VBA.
  • Knowledge or understanding of Japanese language skill.
  • Experience calibrating engine controls for markets other than the US (Japan, Europe, China, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring/developing new engineers in a professional environment.
  • Self-motivated and responsible with willingness to work overtime to accomplish goals.

Responsibilities

  • Execute engine control development activities as a member of a diverse calibration team to meet requirements for North America and global markets.
  • Complete engine calibration and testing in accordance with procedures to meet regulations and other market requirements.
  • Prepare and manage calibration and resource schedules to meet development deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Data collection, advanced data analysis, and preparation of technical reports on a regular basis.
  • Develop new procedures and tools for testing, data analysis, and calibration.
  • Build successful relationships with related vehicle departments.
  • Conduct vehicle testing and development under extreme environmental conditions (hot, cold, high altitude).
  • Advise engineers on the team by providing expertise/experience.
