About The Position

Toyota’s Fuel Cell Development (FCD) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer to support the development of hydrogen infrastructure to support our fuel cell projects. The primary responsibility of this role is to support growth of HRS (Hydrogen Refuel Stations) via HRS design, development, deployment, trouble shooting and testing. Reporting to the Hydrogen Ecosystem Senior Manager, the person in this role will support Toyota’s transition from an automotive company to a hydrogen mobility company, playing a critical role in ushering the “era of creating a new mobility culture.” The position will be located in Gardena, California.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (or above) in Engineering or other related technical disciplines (co-op and internships will be considered).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in hydrogen infrastructure development, deployment, or operations across one or more stages of the hydrogen value chain, including: Upstream: Production Midstream: Transportation and Distribution Downstream: Dispensing and Refueling
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and other software development tools supporting powertrain systems design and validation.
  • Availability to travel up to 20%, including domestic and international assignments, in support of cross-functional and business initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hydrogen fueling station design, validation, and testing, including dispensing systems, fuel delivery infrastructure, and applicable industry standards.
  • Experience with P&ID and electrical schematics/drawings.
  • Experience working with or within Toyota or Toyota Related Companies.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Results-oriented individual with exceptional critical-thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Design-build-improve mentality with a commitment to continuous learning and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and executing test plans for Hydrogen Refueling stations.
  • Developing design documents for permitting and construction of HRS.
  • Confirm station performance and safety compliance to applicable codes and standards (ex. SAE J2601, ANSI/CSA HGV 4.3, NFPA 2, SAE J2719, ISO 14687, ISO 19880-8 etc.).
  • Analyzing technical test data and supporting developing appropriate countermeasures.
  • Evaluate new H2 technologies and companies.
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Manage schedules and budgets to ensure deliverables are complete on time.
  • Technical communications spokesperson for Hydrogen Ecosystem and Fuel Cell Vehicles.
