About The Position

SAIC is hiring a PowerBI Database Engineer to support the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) program. The role delivers effective and insightful reporting using Power BI, SharePoint, Excel, and other tools; combines data from disparate sources into customer-ready dashboards; and provides real- and near-real-time reports and information to support key decisions. The position is onsite in Washington, D.C. The engineer designs, develops, and deploys business intelligence and reporting solutions that combine information from multiple systems through APIs or other authorized data-transfer methods. The work includes translating business requirements into technical specifications and data models, developing reports and dashboards, writing advanced SQL, connecting to and transforming data sources, and presenting information in customer-consumable formats.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and five or more years of experience, or six additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Active Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
Experience scripting web applications in JavaScript or C++.
Experience developing application programming interfaces (APIs).
Experience with Power BI tools, development, and administration.
Experience developing data presentations.
Experience with SQL, including complex joins, mathematical operations, and aggregations.
Experience building Analysis Services reporting models.
Demonstrated ability to create custom calculations using Power BI DAX.
Ability to transform and integrate new and existing data sets.
Knowledge of statistical applications.
Ability to lead and collaborate in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment with competing priorities.
Ability to solve complex problems without technical guidelines and apply creative thinking.
Good understanding of REST and Web APIs.
Ability to translate functional requirements into technical work packages and data models.
One of the following certifications is required: Network+ CE, Security+ CE, CySA+, or CASP+ CE.

Nice To Haves

Three or more years of experience in an Agile organization using a formal Agile methodology is strongly preferred.
Power BI or Power Platform certifications are strongly preferred.
Experience working with virtual or physically dispersed teams is preferred.
Experience with Power Platform applications such as Apps, Automate, BI, and Pages is preferred.

Responsibilities

Design and deploy reporting tools to fuse and present information from various systems using API calls or other authorized data-transfer methods.
Design, develop, and deploy business intelligence solutions using Power BI, SQL, SharePoint, and other tools.
Write and design advanced SQL, including stored procedures, functions, views, tables, and relationships.
Determine business requirements in a business intelligence context and design data models that transform raw data into meaningful insights.
Convert business requirements into technical specifications and implement reports that support decision-making.
Craft and execute queries in response to data requests.
Establish relationships between data sources and develop tabular and multidimensional data models to present information in customer-consumable formats.
Connect to data sources, import and transform data, and develop visual reports, dashboards, and KPI scorecards using Power BI Desktop.
Build Analysis Services reporting models and custom calculations using Power BI DAX.
Translate functional requirements into technical work packages and data models.
