About The Position

We are currently seeking a Power Transmission and Distribution Superintendent to join our Power Department in Sudbury. The role is a permanent position for an existing vacancy. As a Power Transmission and Distribution Superintendent, you will drive results through leadership, standardized work practices, and continuous improvement. The position is responsible for monitoring and reducing process variation, identifying improvement opportunities, and collaborating with Managers, Supervisors, and cross-functional teams to optimize technical, social, and commercial systems. The role also ensures compliance with all regulatory, company, and operational requirements while supporting the achievement of business, maintenance, and project objectives.

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Electrical trade certification as 309A or 442A.
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in electrical maintenance and operations, including high-voltage power systems and utility-scale electrical infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing maintenance personnel, contractors, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in high-voltage substations, transmission and distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and power system operations.
  • Proven experience in maintenance execution, work management, asset reliability, continuous improvement, and root cause failure analysis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical safety regulations, electrical codes, mining regulations, power system protection, testing, condition monitoring, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance, asset management, and operational excellence principles.
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities in high-risk and fast-paced operational environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing unionized workforces, contractors, and external service providers.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation would be considered an asset.
  • PowerLine Technician or Protection and Control certifications would also be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety leadership, promote a Zero Harm culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead risk management and incident investigation activities.
  • Oversee the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of high-voltage electrical systems and implement asset management strategies to optimize performance and minimize risk.
  • Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance programs, ensuring safe, cost-effective work delivery and effective outage management.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop electrical teams while building technical capability, succession plans, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership for capital projects, system upgrades, commissioning activities, and major maintenance initiatives.
  • Monitor asset health and reliability metrics, investigate root causes, and implement sustainable improvements to safety, reliability, and cost performance.
  • Manage operating and capital budgets while optimizing labor, contractor, and material resources to meet business objectives.
  • Oversee contractor performance and collaborate with operations, engineering, regulators, utilities, and other stakeholders to support organizational goals.
  • Lead emergency response and power restoration efforts while developing contingency plans to ensure electrical system resilience and business continuity.
  • Maintain and continuously improve electrical standards, procedures, and asset management practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry requirements.
