Power System Analyst

Huawei Technologies Canada Co., Ltd.Montreal, QC

About The Position

Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Power System Analyst. The Smart Grid Technology Lab focuses on research in real-time simulation technologies, microgrid energy management, control systems, and other smart grid technologies. We apply cutting-edge technologies to the digital power industry. The lab has developed into a research organization with significant achievements and a strong impact in the industry. The role involves developing accurate simulation models of power systems and power electronics, implementing and validating these models to assess system performance, performing detailed analysis of simulation results to provide insights into grid stability and dynamic behavior, and collaborating with the R&D team to investigate emerging technologies and prepare technical reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a focus of Real-Time Simulation.
  • Strong experience in using EMT software (e.g., PSCAD, EMTP, Power Factory) , real-time simulation platforms (e.g., RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon HIL) , or other simulation software (e.g., Simulink, PLECS) for power system/power electronics modeling and analysis.
  • Knowledge of power systems and power electronics modeling and analysis, including generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in English is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and real-time control systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate simulation models of power systems and power electronics (PSCAD, EMTP, Hypersim, OPAL-RT, RSCAD, etc.).
  • Implement and validate simulation models to assess system performance under various scenarios and operating conditions.
  • Perform detailed analysis of power systems electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation results and provide insights into grid stability, fault response, and dynamic behavior.
  • Collaborate with the research and development team to investigate emerging technologies and assist in preparing technical reports based on simulation findings.
